Fall – Transformation, Tradition, Reflection…

Fall – Transformation, tradition, reflection…

Fall represents a time for transformations both personal and environmental. A season drenched in tradition, and iss the perfect time to reflect and embrace change. We leave the Summer heat behind and the blooming flowers are replaced by crisp leaves, the smell of the woods, and coll nights.

As summer winds down September is the perfect time to take advantage of the many surrounding walking, hiking and biking trails, and most of them dog-friendly! Right outside your door, at Cambrian Rise, is the Burlington Bike Path which can take you south towards downtown Burlington and all the action, or north towards the causeway and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can walk, bike, or run along the shores of Lake Champlain in either direction, how cool is that! Local Motion is a great resource for trips and tips.

Just a few minutes north of Cambrian Rise is Rock Point Conservation Area, with its unique geology, natural history and geography and a few miles of hiking trails on over 130 acres. For more information check out their website at

If you are thinking about ‘getting out of town’ for a longer hike, bike ride, or a leisurely drive in the countryside, don’t forget Rufus (our little orange CarShare vehicle) is waiting for you to hit the road.

September is also harvest time, many of the season’s best fruits and vegetables are available at this time of the year so don’t forget to check out the Farmer’s Market on Pine Street in downtown Burlington. Every Saturday from 8:30 to 2 pm, it runs until the end of October (weather permitting), has free bike parking and is only a block away from the bus stop.

There is also plenty to do indoors for those rainy days. The Fleming Museum on the UVM Campus is a treasure right here in Burlington. They have an extensive permanent collection as well as exhibitions from around the world. Get information about the Fleming Museum here –

Perhaps you have some younger people in your life or friends who are visiting with children. Echo, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain is the perfect place to engage, amuse and educate the kids. And you’ll love it as well. For rates and events go to –

And of course there is always something going to do on the Church Street Marketplace. This summer and into the fall the Marketplace is hosting the BCA Artist Market every Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm, until October 12th. The Artist Market offers unique, handmade items by Vermont artists and features a diverse offering of ceramics, jewelry, games, clothing, accessories, and more, located on the City Hall block.

September is when Mother Nature begins to explode with color. Now is the time to take advantage of the cooler days. Every day will bring changes in the landscape, colors will emerge, the smell of fall will be in the air and the warmth of the sun will be a welcome respite from the summer’s heat. Get out there and have some fun, alone, with your doggo or with a group of friends, and send us pictures of your spectacular sunsets, the magnificent foliage or any other memorable moment and we will put it on our Facebook and Instagram page – with full credit to you, the photographer.
